மத்ஸ்யாவதார வர்ணநம்: முன்பு ஓர் அசுரன் பிரமனிடமிருந்து வேதங்களை எல்லாம் பறித்துக்கொண்டு கடலினுட் புகுந்து மறைந்தான். வேதங்களின்றிப் பிரமன் எந்தச் செயலைச் செய்ய முடியும்? எம்பெருமானிடம் புலம்பிச் சரணடைந்தான். பகவான் உடனே பெரியதொரு மீன் வடிவுகொண்டு கடல் நீருட் புகுந்து தன் திருக்கண்களால் மறைகளைத் தேடினான். தன் திருக்கண்களைச் செல்ல விட்டபோது அவை செல்லுமிடமெல்லாம் கடல் நீரினுள்ளே அழகிய தாமரை மலர்கள் நிறைந்த காடுகளாகப் புலப்பட்டனவாம். எம்பெருமான் எந்த வடிவு கொண்டாலும் அவனுடைய ஸர்வேசுவரத் தன்மையைக் காட்டவல்ல தாமரைக்கண்களின் சிறப்பு மாறுவதில்லையன்றோ! மேலும் நீரில் மீன் அங்குமிங்கும் ஓடித்திரிவது இயற்கையிலேயே அழகியதாகும். ஸர்வேசுவரன் பெரிய மீன் வடிவுடன் கடலினுட் புகுந்து வேதங்களைத் தேடித் திரியும்போது அவ்வழகு கூறற்பாலதோ? அவனுடைய ஸஞ்சாரத்தால் கடலில் பேரலைகள் தடையின்றி எழுகின்றன. அப்பொழுது அவ்வலைகள் ஒன்றோடு ஒன்று மோதிக்கொண்டு ஏறுவதும் இறங்குவதுமாயிருப்பதால் அவை ஊஞ்சல் போலாகின்றன. அவ்வூஞ்சல்களில் அமர்ந்து ஆடுவதில் உற்சாகம் கொள்கின்றான் எம்பெருமான். இவ்வாறு கடலுட் புகுந்து அசுரனைக் கொன்று வேதங்களை மீட்டு வந்து கொடுத்துப் பிரமனைக் காத்த ஸர்வேசுவரனுடைய மீனுருவம் நம்மையும் காத்தருள வேண்டும்.
The
Divine Matsya Avatar that Recovered the Vedas
Long ago,
an asura stole all the Vedas from Brahma and hid himself in the ocean. Without
the Vedas, Brahma could not carry out his duties, so he cried out and
surrendered to the Lord. At once, Bhagavan took the form of a huge fish and
entered the ocean to search for the sacred Vedas with His divine eyes. Wherever
His lotus-like eyes moved, the waters of the ocean appeared like forests filled
with beautiful blooming lotuses. Whatever form He may take, the glory of His
lotus eyes—which reveal that He is the Supreme Paramathma —never changes. By
nature, the movement of a fish in water is beautiful to see. How much more
wonderful it must have been when the Supreme Lord Himself, in the form of a
great fish, moved through the ocean searching for the Vedas! Because of His
movement, great waves rose in the sea without pause. As the waves rose and
fell, striking one another, they seemed like swings. It was as though the Lord
joyfully sat and played upon those swinging waves. In this way, the Supreme
Lord entered the ocean, killed the asura, recovered the Vedas, and protected
Brahma. May that divine fish form of the Lord protect us as well.

Somakan (also known as Hayagrivan), an asura,
stole the Vedas from Brahma and hid them in the pralaya waters. Brahma, having
lost the Vedas, surrendered to Perumal.

Perumal then took the form of a fish to search
for the Vedas that were hidden in the ocean by Somakasura.
·
As Perumal searched for the Vedas in the ocean,
His kadaksham (graceful glance) spread everywhere. The reflection of His
lotus-like eyes appeared in the water droplets, making it look as though an
entire forest of lotuses had blossomed — “thamarai kaadu poothathu pol
thondriyathu.”
· Whatever the avataram may be, His eyes always
reveal that He is Emperuman Pundareekakshan (the Lotus-eyed Lord).

As Perumal moved through the ocean, the waters
were filled with waves. While searching for the Vedas, He appeared as though He
was playfully jumping on a swing (joola) formed by the rising and falling
waves.

May this fish form of Emperuman protect us.
