கூர்மாவதார வர்ணநம்: தேவர்களுக்கு அமுதத்தை அளிப்பதற்காக எம்பெருமான் மந்தரமலையை மத்தாக நாட்டிக் கடலைக் கடையவேண்டியதாயிற்று. அப்பொழுது மந்தரமலை கடலுள் ஆழ்ந்துவிடாதபடி பகவான் ஆமை வடிவு கொண்டு அம்மலையைத் தன் முதுகில் தாங்கி நிற்கவும் வேண்டியிருந்தது. கடையும் போது மலை சுழலுமன்றோ! அப்படிச் சுழலுவது ஆமைக்கு முதுகில் உண்டாகும் தினவுக்கு அழுந்தச் சொறிந்து கொடுப்பதாயிருந்ததாம். அதனால் மிகுத்த ஸுகம் ஏற்பட்டு ஆமை எம்பெருமானுக்கு உறக்கமும் வந்ததாம். அப்பொழுது குறட்டையும் ஏற்பட்டது. மூச்சுக் காற்று அலையலையாகக் கடல் முழுதும் வீசியது. அந்த வேகத்தால் கடல்நீர் ஆடியசைந்தது. அந்த நீர் எம்பெரு மானுக்கு இயந்திரக் கட்டில் போல் அமைந்ததாம். அதில் எம்பெருமான் பெரிய பிராட்டியுடன் எப்பொழுதும் பள்ளி கொண்டு பேரின்பத்தை நுகர்கின்றான். இவ்வாறு செய்தன ஆமை வடிவத்தின் மூச்சுக்காற்றுக்கள் தாமே? அவை மூவுலகையும் காத்தருள்க.
The Divine Play of the Kurma Avatar During the Churning of the Ocean To give amrita (nectar of immortality) to the Devas, the Lord had to churn the ocean using Mount Mandara as the churning rod. At that time, to prevent the mountain from sinking into the ocean, Bhagavan took the form of a tortoise and supported the mountain on His back. While the churning was taking place, the mountain kept rotating. As it turned, it pressed and rubbed against the back of the tortoise, almost like gently scratching an itch. Because of this, the Lord in the tortoise form experienced great comfort and even felt sleepy. It is said that He even began to snore. The breath that came from Him spread like powerful waves throughout the ocean. Due to that force, the waters of the ocean moved and swayed. Those moving waters became like a mechanical bed for the Lord. Upon that, He reclines forever with Periya Piratti, enjoying supreme bliss. May the very breaths of that divine tortoise form, which protected all the worlds, continue to protect us as well.
