ஸம்ஸாரக்
கடலில் இருந்து காப்பாற்றும் வேதக் கை
உலகில்-திமிங்கிலம் முதலிய நீர்ப் பிராணிகள் நிறைந்துள்ள கடல் மிகப் பயங்கரமானது. அதில் ஒருவன் வீழ்ந்து தத்தளித்தால் அவனுக்குக் கைகொடுத்துத் தூக்கிக் கரையேற்ற வேண்டும். தூக்குபவன் கை மிக்க வலிமையுடையதாயிருக்க வேண்டும். அவனது தோள் பருத்தாய்த் தக்கவாறு அமைந்திருக்கவேண்டும். இத்துடன் விரல்களும் உரிய வலிமையுடன் இருக்கவேண்டும். இத்துணை அம்சங்களுடன் உள்ள கையால்தான் கடலில் விழுந்தவனைத் தூக்க முடியும். தயாதேவியே! உலகிலுள்ள மானிடர்கள் பல்வகையிலும் பயங்கரமான ஸம்ஸாரமென்னும் கடலில் அகப்பட்டு அல்லலுறுகின்றனர். இவர்களின் துன்பத்தைப் பொறுக்காத நீ இவர்களுக்குக் கைகொடுத்துக் கரையேற்றுமாறு திருவேங்கடநாதனுக்குக் கட்டளையிடுகின்றாய். உன் கட்டளைக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிந்து அவன் இவர்களுக்கு வேதமாகிய கையைக் கொடுத்துத் தூக்குகின்றான். அந்த வேதத்தைக் கற்பதால் உண்டாகும் விவேகமே வேதத்தின் முக்கியமான பயன். ப்ரணவமென்னும் எழுத்தே வேதத்தின் தொடக்கமாதலின் அது அடிப்பாகம் போன்றது. அந்த ப்ரணவத்தின் பெருமை எல்லையற்றது. எல்லாவெழுத்துக்கும் முதன்மையாய் எம்பெருமானைக் கூறுவதாயுள்ள அகாரம் ப்ரணவத்தில் சேர்ந்திருப்பதால் ப்ரணவத்தின் பெருமை இன்னும் விஞ்சி நிற்கின்றது. கைக்குப் பல விரல்கள் இருப்பதுபோல் வேதத்துக்கும் ரிக் - யஜுஸ் - ஸாமம் என்ற முறையில் பல்வேறு சாகைகள் உள்ளன. ஓதுவதற்கும் கேட்பதற்கும் இனியதாய் எவ்வகைக் குற்றமற்றதாய்ச் சாசுவதமாயுள்ள வேதமென்னும் கையைக் கொடுத்து ஸம்ஸார ஸமுத்ரத்தினின்று கரையேற்றுகின்றான் ஸ்ரீநிவாஸன். அந்த வேதத்தை ஓதி அதன் அர்த்தங்களை உணர்ந்து மக்கள் அதன் கட்டளையின்படி ஒழுகி ப்ரபத்தியைச் செய்து ஸம்ஸார பந்தம் நீங்கப்பெற்று மோக்ஷம் பெறுகின்றனர். இப்படி வேதமென்னும் சாஸ்த்ரத்தை உலகுக்கு அவன் காட்டும்படி நீதான் அவனுக்குக் கட்டளையிடுகின்றாய். The Hand of the Vedas that
Rescues from the Ocean of Samsara
In this
world, the ocean filled with huge creatures like whales is very frightening. If
someone falls into it and struggles, another person must extend a strong hand
and lift him safely to the shore. The rescuer’s arm must be powerful, his
shoulders firm, and even his fingers strong enough to hold and pull the
drowning person out. Only such a strong hand can save someone from the sea.
In the same way, human beings are trapped in the dangerous ocean of Samsara, filled with many kinds of suffering. O Daya Devi! Unable to bear their pain, you command Srinivasa to stretch out His hand and rescue them. Obeying your command, He gives them the helping hand of the Vedas. The main fruit of learning the Vedas is Viveka — true understanding and wisdom. The sacred syllable Pranava , which stands at the beginning of the Vedas, is like the base of that divine hand. Its greatness is immeasurable, because within it is the letter A, which represents the Supreme Lord Himself. Just as a hand has many fingers, the Vedas too have many branches such as Rig, Yajur, and Sama. These Vedas are sweet to hear and recite, free from defects, and eternal in nature. Through this divine hand of the Vedas, Srinivasa lifts people out of the ocean of Samsara. By studying the Vedas, understanding their meaning, living according to their teachings, and performing Prapatti, people become freed from worldly bondage and attain Moksha. It is you, O Compassion Divine, who makes Him reveal these sacred scriptures to the world for the upliftment of all beings. (46)

தயையின் அருள்
[இந்தச் சுலோகத்தின் சொல்லமைப்புக்களை உற்றுநோக்கினால் ஆழ்வாருடைய அருளிச் செயலும் ஸ்ரீ தேசிகன் திருவுள்ளத்தில் ஓடியிருக்குமென்று தோன்றுவதாகக் கருதிப் பெரியோர் பின்வருமாறும் பொருள் கூறுவர்—

पति: — குலபதியான நம்மாழ்வார் (‘ஆத்யஸ்ய ந: குலபதே:’)
·
वृषगिरि — (எல்லோருக்கும்) நன்மை பயக்கும் தமிழ் மொழியில் (வ்ருஷ — நன்மை தரும் கிரி —
மொழியில்) (‘ஸர்வ வர்ணார்ஹவேத’)
·
प्रज्ञा सारं — அறிவின் ஸாரமாய் - (‘ஸாரஸ் ஸாரஸ்வதானாம்’)
·
प्रकृति महता — இயற்கையாய்ப் பெருமையுடைய, ப்ரக்ருதி என்னும் பகுதியால் பெரிய தான (ஸாமவேதத்தில் ப்ரக்ருதி என்னும் பகுதி
பெரியது)

मूल भागे जुष्टं —வேதத்துக்கு மூலமான ப்ரணவத்துடன் கூடிய;
உக்தீமெனும் பகுதியுடன் சேர்ந்த;
அந்தணர்களுக்கு மூலமான ஸாமவேதத்தோடு
சேர்ந்த (‘ஸாமவேதோ ப்ராஹ்மணாம் ப்ரஸதி:’)

शाखा भेदैः सुभगम् — 1000 சாகைகளால் பெருமை பெற்ற — (‘ஸஹஸ்ர சாகோபநிஷத்
ஸமாகமம்’) சாச்வதம்—அழியாததான (‘நித்யம் ஜாதா சடரிபுதநோ:’)

शास्त्र पाणि— திருவாய்மொழியென்னும் சாஸ்த்ரமாகிய கையை

· त्वत् निदेशात् — உன்நியமத்தால் — (‘என்றைக்கு மென்னை’)
இப்படி ஸம்ஸாரக் கடலுள் மூழ்கிநிற்கும் சேதன்களைக் கை தூக்குவதற்காக நம்மாழ்வார், கருணையாகிய உன் நியமத்தால் அறிவின் பயனாய் ஸாமவேத ஸாரமான திருவாய்மொழி என்னும் அழியாத சாஸ்த்ரத்தை எல்லாச் சாதியாருக்கும் உரிய தமிழ் மொழியில் அருளிச்செய்தார் என்று கருத்துக் கொள்க.] (46)
Meaning 2 - Thiruvaimozhi – Compassion’s Divine Hand
that Lifts Jeevathmas from Samsara
Some great
scholars say that, when we carefully observe the arrangement of the words in
this slokam, it appears that the divine hymns of Nammalvar were also flowing in
the sacred mind of Swami Vedanta Desikan. Hence, they give another inner
meaning to this verse:
To rescue
the Jeevas drowning in the ocean of Samsara, Nammalvar, by the command of you
who are Divine Compassion itself, revealed the eternal Shaastram called Thiruvaimozhi,
which is the very essence of the Sama Veda. He gave it in the Tamil language so
that people of every community and background could understand and benefit from
it. Thus, through Thiruvaimozhi, the wisdom of the Vedas became easily
accessible to all, helping people rise from Samsara and move toward liberation.
