திருவேங்கடமுடையானது
கருணையென்னும் குணத்தைப் பற்றிப் பாடிய நூறு சுலோகங்கள் (மேலும் எட்டு)
கொண்டதாதலின் இந்த ஸ்தோத்ரத்துக்கு இத் திருநாமத்தை ஸ்ரீ தேசிகன் தாமே
இட்டருளினார். எம்பெருமான் எண்ணற்ற திருக்கல்யாண குணங்களை உடையனாயிருப்பினும்
அவனுடைய மற்றைக் குணங்களும் தரம் பெறுவது இந்தக் கருணையாலேயே யாதலின் இதன்
உயர்வைப் பலகாலும் இந்த ஸ்தோத்ரத்தில் ஸ்ரீ தேசிகன் வெளியிட்டருளுகின்றார்.
மற்றைக் குணங்கள் போலன்றி இந்தக் கருணை சேதநர்களைக் காப்பதற்கே உடலாயிருப்பது
பற்றி இதையே விஷயமாக்கி இதனை அருளிச்செய்தார்.
இதிலுள்ள பத்துப்
பதிகங்களும் பத்து வகையான விருத்தங்களில் அமைக்கப் பெற்று அநுஸந்திப்பவர்க்கு
மிக்க இன்பத்தை விளைவிப்பன. ஸ்வாமி, கருணையை ஒரு
பிராட்டியாகவே உள்ளத்துக் கொண்டு அத்தேவியோடு பேசும் முறையிலேயே இதை
அமைத்திருப்பதும் சுவைதற்கு உரித்து. ஸ்ரீ தேசிகன் அருளிய ஒவ்வொரு நூலும் மிக்க
சிறப்புடைத்தையாயினும் இந்த ஸ்தோத்ரத்தின் அமைப்பு அதியற்புதமான ஒப்பற்ற ஒரு
தெய்வீகச் செயலாய்த் திகழ்கின்றது. இந்நூலில் ப்ரபத்தியைப் பற்றி அடிக்கடி
வலியுறுத்திப் பேசியிருப்பது அதன் உயர்வை மக்கள் அறிந்து அதைத் தாங்களும்
கைக்கொள்ள உடலாயிருக்கின்றது. இதன் முடிவில் திருவேங்கடமுடையான் தானே வந்து தம்மை
வேதாந்த தேசிகனாக முடிசூட்டி இந்த ஸ்தோத்ரத்தைப் பாடுவித்ததாக ஸ்வாமியே அருளிச்
செய்கின்றார். இதைத் தினந்தோறும் பாராயணம் செய்பவர்கள் திருவேங்கடமுடையானுடைய
திவ்யகடாக்ஷத்துக்கு இலக்காகி ஸகல மங்களங்களையும் பெறுவது உறுதி.

TheStotra Daya Shatakam, composed
of one hundred and eight slokas praising the quality of compassion of Lord
Venkatesa, was given this sacred name by Sri Desikan himself. Though the Lord
possesses countless divine qualities, all His other qualities shine because of
His compassion. That is why Sri Desikan repeatedly highlights the greatness of
this compassion throughout the stotra. Unlike other qualities, this compassion
exists mainly to protect all beings, and so he chose this as the central theme
of the work.
The ten sections in this
stotra are set in ten different poetic meters and give great joy to
those who recite and reflect on them. Swami Desikan beautifully presents
compassion as a divine consort and structures the work as a dialogue with Her,
which adds to its sweetness. Though every work of Sri Desikan is great, the structure
of this stotra is uniquely divine and unmatched. The repeated emphasis on prapatti
in this work helps people understand its importance and follow it in their
lives. At the end, Swami himself says that Lord Venkatesa appeared, crowned
him as Vedanta Desika, and made him compose this stotra. Those who recite
this daily will surely receive the divine grace of Lord Venkatesa and attain
all auspicious blessings.
